Autograph letter signed : Plymouth, to Mr. Gray, 1828 May 24.

Saying he received Mr. Gray's letter, together with shocking news of his sister's death. It is necessary to think of the Richardson children. He will take Mary to London as soon as they get home. Mr. Gray and the Trustees should advise John how to keep the property together. He and Mrs. Ruskin are glad that Mrs. Gray has had a daughter [Euphemia, b. 7 May 1828] and is doing well.

Euphemia Chalmers Gray, called Effie or Phemy, was born in Bowerswell House, Perth, and went to Avondale School, near Statford-on-Avon. She married the art critic John Ruskin on 10 April 1848; the marriage was annulled on 15 July 1854; she married John Everett Millais on 3 July 1855. She and Millais had eight children.
